10 Meters Cliff Burys 1 Family Sleeping In Cianjur's House, 2 People Die
JABAR - One survivor and two others died in the evacuation of a family from inside the house buried by a landslide in Talagasari Village, Cianjur, West Java (West Java).
The Head of Sindangbarang Sub-district, Handika, said the 10-meter high cliff behind the house of the Hilman family's shop collapsed while the occupants were sleeping after heavy rain fell since Monday, December 2 night.
"The owner of the house along with two other people consisted of children and wives buried under two meters of soil, so the search process was carried out directly by joint officers with residents," he said in Cianjur, Tuesday, December 3, which was confiscated by Antara.
The head of Hilman's family was first found safe. Meanwhile, his wife Yasma was unconscious and immediately taken to the hospital, then officers found the victim's child named Akila (8) in a lifeless condition.
The victim's wife had received medical treatment at the ER at Sindangbarang Hospital, but after a few ten minutes she breathed her last.
"For the victim, Hilman is currently taking refuge in his brother's house, while the bodies of his wife and child were immediately buried in a local public cemetery," he said.
Meanwhile, to anticipate further landslides, his party has evacuated about five family coconuts whose houses are adjacent to cliffs, and asked other residents to evacuate immediately if they see natural signs of a disaster.
Along with the high rainfall over the past week, since long ago his party has appealed to residents to increase vigilance and preparedness because the Sindangbarang sub-district is prone to landslides.
"We also involve village officials and Disaster Resilient Volunteers (Retana) to carry out monitoring in their working areas, immediately take anticipatory steps, including evacuating residents when they see signs of a disaster," he said.
