Recitation Of Fasting Intention And Ramadan Iftar Prayer

JAKARTA - Today, Tuesday, April 13, the Ministry of Religious Affairs designates it as the beginning of Ramadan fasting 1442 Hijri.

Ramadan fasting is obligatory for Muslims who have mind or puberty, healthy, not travelers or people who are on a journey a far away. Meanwhile, for women who are menstruating and also nifas are forbidden to fast.

Ramadan fasting is held for a whole month, about 29 to 30 days. During fasting, Muslims endure hunger, thirst, and lust from before dawn until sunset.

Ramadan Fasting must be accompanied by intention. The intention of fasting Ramadan must be pronounced before dawn or at night, before starting fasting.

Here is the intention of fasting Ramadan which is commonly used by many people.

نَوَيْتُ صَوْمَ غَدٍ عَنْ اَدَاءِ فَرْضِ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ هذِهِ السَّنَةِ ِللهِ تَعَالَى

Nawaitu shauma ghodin 'an adaa'i fardhi shahri romadhoona hadihis-sanati lillahi ta'aalaa.

Means:

I intend to fast the next day to fulfill my duty in Ramadan this year because Allah ta'ala.

Meanwhile, Muslims who fast, must break the fast when the sun goes down which is marked by the call to prayer of Maghrib.

The following is a frequently used iftar prayer.

اَللّهُمَّ لَكَ صُمْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَعَلَى رِزْقِكَ أَفْطَرْتُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا اَرْحَمَ الرَّحِمِيْنَ

Allahumma lakasumtu wabika aamantu wa'alaa rizqika afthortu birohmatika yaa arhamar roohimiin

Means:

O Allah, because of You I fast, with You I believe, in You I submit, and with Your provision, I break the fast, by Your mercy, O Allah, the Most Merciful.
