Manchester City Must Start Zero After Losing To Liverpool

JAKARTA - Manchesetr City manager Pep Guardiola said that The Citizens must now start from scratch after a 2-0 defeat at Liverpool.

The defeat extended their winless streak to seven games in all competitions, six defeats and one draw.

Four of these defeats occurred in the Premier League in a row. This negative record is the first since August 2008.

Because of that, Guardiola admitted after the match that the defeat at Anfield forced Manchester City to rearrange.

"During the first 15, Liverpool's 20 minutes were unstoppable. They started very strong. We tried to play with a lot of control and bait, but it was hard to hold back."

"I congratulate them (Liverpool). We will rearrange and start from scratch and find it difficult to believe," said Guardiola.

Guardiola, who signed a two-year new contract in November, believes the players will turn things around to repeat previous successes.

He also emphasized that the season's journey is still far away and there are many possibilities at the end of the season.

"We will start again and try to do well. We accept the reality as it is and recover. I want the team back, the players back."

"I'm very dependent on these players. I know they did it in this position. We'll see what happens at the end of the season."

"I feel from here that we can build something. Maybe you can call mecinat, but I feel we can do it," said the Spaniard.

The defeat to Liverpool through goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah made Manchester City drop to fifth in the 2024/2025 Premier League standings.

The Citizens are now packing 23 points, nine points clear of Liverpool's top standings.
