Deputy Chairperson Of The KPK Not Insinuated By Maruarar's Competition Search For Harun Masiku With A Prize Of IDR 8 Billion

Deputy Chairperson of the KPK Alexander Marwata stated that his party did not feel offended by the Rp8 billion competition to find the whereabouts of fugitive Harun Masiku.

Alexander said the competition was a form of community participation in efforts to eradicate corruption as stipulated in the KPK Law.

"It is also not (insinuated). In the KPK Law, it is clear there that in the context of eradicating corruption, the KPK invites all elements of the nation's society. If there are people who feel they may feel why they don't meet, make a competition," he said, Monday, December 2.

The Rp8 billion contest was previously conveyed by the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait through videos circulating on social media.

Maruarar said he would provide cash bonuses for anyone who could arrest Harun Masiku. The money came from his personal pocket.

Alex said the competition was good because the promised money did not come from state finances. If he has personal money to arrest Harun Masiku, he will do the same.

"If possible, I would also like to make a competition, but the state doesn't have (money for a competition)," he said.

Alexander said the KPK was not aware of Harun Masiku's whereabouts until now.

"We don't know the whereabouts of the person concerned," he said.

He denied that the KPK was considered defeated against Harun Masiku because the case was still in process, including finding Harun Masiku's whereabouts.

"No (loss). We are still looking for it. I think Indonesia is wide, let alone where he runs in Jakarta, we have a hard time finding him," he said.

When asked about Harun Masiku's target, his whereabouts were revealed, Alex said the sooner the better.

The KPK leadership still trusts KPK investigators in handling the Harun Masiku case.

"We still trust investigators, we are still trying to find the person concerned," he said.

As for Harun Masiku, he has always been absent from the summons of KPK investigators and has been on the wanted list (DPO) since January 17, 2020.

Harun Masiku was named a suspect in the case of alleged giving gifts or promises to state officials related to the appointment of elected candidates for DPR RI members for the 2019-2024 period at the General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia.
