55 Dangerous Cosmetic Products Circulate, BPOM Will Hold Cyber Patrol
JAKARTA The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) will carry out continuous cyber patrols after finding 55 dangerous cosmetic products sold online and offline.
"There is a shift in the distribution pattern and promotion of cosmetics, BPOM conducts surveillance in online media based on risk analysis. BPOM conducts cyber patrols," said Head of BPOM, Taruna Ikrar to reporters, Thursday, November 28.
The results of this supervision are evidenced by the findings of cosmetics containing prohibited materials or hazardous materials which are mostly distributed online.
"A total of 53,688 illegal cosmetic links have been recommended to the Ministry of Communication and Digital and Indonesian E-commerce Association (idEA) for content reduction or takedown," he said.
Taruna Ikrar explained, in the last 5 years, the domestic cosmetic industry has shown significant positive growth.
The number of cosmetic industries in Indonesia until the end of October 2024 reached 1,249 industries or an increase of 16.40% from the previous year.
The number of cosmetic products that have a distribution permit or BPOM notification until the end of October 2024 has reached 283,391 products dominated by 68.80% of local cosmetic products.

With this figure, cosmetics is a commodity that also has an important role in improving the national economy.
In addition to this positive growth, BPOM also noted an increase in violations in the cosmetic field.
"Business actors who produce or distribute pharmaceutical preparations or medical devices that do not meet the standards and requirements of safety, efficacy, benefit, and quality can be subject to administrative sanctions and criminal sanctions," he said.
BPOM will continue to increase supervision of the circulation of imported cosmetics, to protect public health and protect local products from the flood of imported products.
"I remind the public to be careful in choosing and buying cosmetic products. Don't be tempted by deviant promotions," he said.
Previously, it was reported that the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) found dangerous cosmetic products circulating in online shops and sales after conducting testing sampling at the BPOM RI Office, Jalan Percetakan Negara, Central Jakarta, Thursday, November 28.
Head of BPOM, Taruna Ikrar emphasized that 55 cosmetic products were found to contain prohibited materials or hazardous materials.
"The findings consist of 35 cosmetic products made based on production contracts, 6 cosmetic products produced and circulated by the cosmetics industry, and 14 imported cosmetic products," Taruna Ikrar told reporters, Thursday, November 28.
According to him, cosmetics is a pharmaceutical preparation that has a risk to health if it does not meet the requirements of safety, benefits, and quality.
