Megawati Says Democracy Is Threatened With Death: There Is A Power That Is Halal To All Ways

JAKARTA - The general chairman of the PDI-P (PDIP), Megawati Soekarnoputri, said that there are forces that threaten democracy. In fact, resources to state tools can be used to intervene in people's sovereignty for power.

This was conveyed by Megawati who highlighted the defeat of her regional head candidates, including in Central Java.

"Ladies and gentlemen, democracy is now threatened with death due to forces that justify all means."

"This force is capable of using state resources and tools," Megawati said in a video caption, Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

"This can be seen in several areas that I have observed continuously, such as Banten, Central Java, East Java, North Sumatra to North Sulawesi, and various other provinces," continued the Fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Megawati said she didn't talk carelessly. He said, a number of reports had come into his ears.

"In Central Java, for example, I received a report on how massive the use of regional head officials to transfer police apparatus for the sake of electoral politics," he said.

He regretted that this incident could happen. Moreover, there has been a decision by the Constitutional Court (MK) which states that non-neutral state officials can be punished.

"This should not be left alone," he said.

Furthermore, Megawati said that Central Java was not just a bull cage, but also a place for the ideas of nationalism and patriotism to grow. So, he believes that PDIP should not lose there.

"I see the energy of the movement of the people, sympathizers, and militant cadres and should be unbeaten if the Pilkada is carried out fairly, honestly, and fairly," he said.

However, this condition has changed. The problem is, he accuses power of interfering in the ongoing democratic party.

"What is happening now is beyond the limits of ethics, morals, and conscience," he said.

"Therefore, to all sympathizers, members, and cadres of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle and all Indonesian people, I urge you to continue: 'Never be afraid to voice the truth'," added Megawati.

In the future, Megawati said that PDIP would take measured resistance through legal channels. There are at least five things that its cadres have to do.

First, he asked cadres and sympathizers to maintain and secure every public vote as well as possible.

Second, Megawati asked for evidence of intimidation by state apparatus, especially money politics, to be collected. Moreover, what has to do with the neutrality of regional head officials to pressure on village heads.

Then, Megawati also asked her cadres and sympathizers to collect evidence of massive social assistance mobilization and similar practices.

Fourth, evidence of trial such as in Banten Province must also be collected.

"Fifth, continue to mastermind the power of the people to dare to voice the truth," he concluded.
