JAKARTA - The North Sumatra Regional Police (Polda) deployed personnel to help flood-affected residents in a number of areas in Medan City and its surroundings.
"The personnel deployed to help the flood victims consisted of Brimob, Samapta, and SAR," said Head of Public Relations of the North Sumatra Police, Kombes Pol. Hadi Wahyudi, in Medan, Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
Hadi said the areas affected by the flood were Patumbak District, Aur Village, Medan Maimun District, Sunggal area, Deli Serdang Regency, and other areas.
"Personnel are already at the flood site to assist in evacuating residents to safer places," he said.
In addition to flooding, Hadi said that there was a landslide in the Sembahe Village area, Sibolangit District, Deli Serdang Regency, which caused the traffic flow of Medan-Berastagi to be completely paralyzed.
"It was also identified that three people died buried in landslide material which had been taken to Bhayangkara Hospital, Medan," said Hadi.
He added that in locations affected by the flood, joint personnel were deployed to help residents reach the polling stations (TPS) safely.
According to Hadi, despite facing extreme weather constraints, the Kapolda ensures that all efforts continue to be made to ensure public participation in this Pilkada.
"This flood is indeed a big challenge, but we are committed to keeping democracy running well in North Sumatra," he said.
Meanwhile, Dansat Brimob Polda North Sumatra, Kombes Pol. Rantu Isnur Eka, said that his party provided a food field kitchen to help people to eat in that place in the hope that it could benefit the community.
Isnur said the evacuation used rubber boats and provided life jackets to help people at home to be taken to a safe place.
"We continue to evacuate with other SAR teams in helping flood-affected communities in Medan and its surroundings," he said.
