Focusing On Playing Glinda, Ariana Grande Rejects Popular Songs To Hip-Hop
JAKARTA - Ariana Grande's dedication to Wicked's film is total and impressive, at least it is the memory of the film's composer, Stephen Schwartz.
Playing the role of Glinda, Grande is required to sing several songs in Wicked's film. One of the songs is Popular which is re-sung by him as one of the film scenes.
Schwartz revealed he had planned Grande to create a new version of Popular's song to sound more modern and far from the original version, however, the singer rejected the idea.
"As a force to be open to new things in films, the music team and I think, let's update the rhythm. Maybe, I don't know, make a little hip-hop," Stephen Schwartz quoted LATimes as saying.
Ariana said 'No. No. I want to be Glinda, not Ariana Grande playing Glinda' continued Schwartz quoting Grande's words.
Schwartz also suggested the final part of the song where Grande shows his vocal range, but Grande just wants to do it when the idea is in line with Glinda's character.
Saya punya ide untuk akhir vokalnya. Ariana awalnya sedikit ragu tapi saya saya punya ide seperti ini. Sesangat dia yakin bahwa musik baru ini keluar dari karakternya, dia setuju, katanya.
Ariana Grande's appearance brought Popular praise for still being in line with her Broadway theater version.
Besides being popular, Ariana Grande and her co-stars, Cynthia Erivo sang all the songs in the film Wicked.
