Arsenal's Bad Away Record Ahead Of Sporting
JAKARTA - Arsenal will travel to Lisbon to meet Sporting CP in the fifth match of the 2024/2025 Champions League, Wednesday, November 27, 2024, early morning WIB.
The Gunners came with various negative notes. Arsenal have won only one of their last eight away games in Europe.
The record began with a 1-1 draw in December 2023 against PSV Eindhoven when the Gunners had confirmed their place in the knockout stages.
However, Arteta dismissed that these statistics were relevant against Sporting.
"Not all matches are the same. It is true that in that match there were matches that we had already passed."
"Something really true is that we have to improve on those results and we have to find a way to understand what's missing."
"Sometimes it's performance, sometimes it's another aspect. That's the next step we have to do as a team," Arteta said.
The Spanish manager prefers to highlight the actual facts in which his troops are not productive in the Champions League this season.
The Gunners have only scored three goals in four Champions League games. All of those goals were scored during the home game.
In the remaining two away games in the Champions League this season, Arsenal did not score at all.
Arteta is more worried about that because of his failure to score in two Champions League games this season extending his previous poor record to the last four games in a row without scoring goals in the away.
No wonder Arteta urged his attackers to find sharpness so that their hopes in the Champions League remain on track.
"I will not say that this is the most important thing. However, the efficiency we have shown in the penalty box at this level with the opportunities we usually get at the Champions League level, not at the level needed to win consistently."
"I've always said the Champions League is about the penalty box, small margin, and details."
"You have to do everything right to win, especially when playing away," said Arteta.
Arsenal are in 12th place in the Champions League standings this season with seven points from two wins, one draw, and one defeat.
Meanwhile, their opponent, Sporting, appeared very impressive. The Portuguese club is in second place in the standings without losing.
Sporting picked up 10 points from three wins and one draw, two points behind Liverpool at the top of the table.
