Academics Call Corruption Eradication Less Gesit Without The Asset Confiscation Law

JAKARTA - Academics from the University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) as well as a Doctor of Criminal Law at the University of Indonesia, Chairul Huda, said that eradicating corruption was less agile without the Asset Confiscation Law.

Eradication of corruption seems not to be the main thing in Indonesia because the draft law (RUU) on asset confiscation is not included in the list of the 2025 priority national legislation program (Prolegnas).

"How do you want to discuss (the idea is what the eradication of corruption will be like through the Asset Confiscation Law), whether it is included in the National Legislation Program or not," Chairul told ANTARA in Jakarta, Sunday, November 24.

He said the movement to strengthen the eradication of corruption, both in terms of rules and strengthening institutions such as the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) had not been clearly seen.

In fact, it seems that it weakens the commitment to eradicate illegal acts that harm the nation and state.

"What will be seen is the design of the KPK later, maybe only for prevention," said Chairul.

Chairul assessed that the composition of the new KPK leadership has not reflected law enforcement measures related to corruption in the future will be stronger and national.

The Asset Confiscation Bill is not included in the list of draft DPR proposals that are included in the national legislation program (Prolegnas).

The information was based on a list read out at the DPR Legislation Body (Baleg) meeting on Monday (28/10), which discussed the evaluation of the previous DPR period, namely 2019-2024 and the Prolegnas 2024-2029 proposal.

Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas said his party was trying to dialogue with parliament to smooth out the discussion of the Asset Confiscation Bill (RUU), considering that the bill was not included in the 2025 priority Prolegnas.

"Now we are making joint dialogue with parliament, with the general chairmen of political parties, so that President Prabowo Subianto will send a presidential decree to enter the upcoming prolegnas, ensuring that it will be guaranteed to be discussed and discussed in parliament," Supratman said when met at his office, Jakarta, Wednesday (20/11).

According to Supratman, President Prabowo is paying serious attention to the Asset Confiscation Bill. He said the President had the determination to eradicate corruption in the country.
