KPU Targets 2024 Election Voters Participation Around 82 Percent

The General Election Commission (KPU) targets the voter participation rate in the 2024 National Simultaneous Regional Head Elections to reach 82 percent.

KPU member Idham Holik said the target refers to the achievement of participation in elections which are considered quite high compared to developed democratic countries.

"With an average participation achievement of 82 percent. A high-categorized participation achievement compared to countries that are said to claim to be developed in democracy," said Idham as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, November 23.

According to him, the level of participation is not only determined by the existence of polling stations (TPS), but is also influenced by various factors, including community readiness and existing socio-political conditions.

On the other hand, he reminded that one of the big challenges in this election is the potential for political fatigue or political fatigue due to the community recently through the 2024 General Election.

"Well, this is also important for us to discuss later. If this situation does occur, the potential participation will decrease. Meanwhile, we have one demand, namely increasing participation," he said.

In an effort to realize this target, the KPU has compiled technical regulations through PKPU Number 17 of 2024.

This regulation is expected to be able to improve the integrity and quality of regional elections, as well as answer the challenges that exist in the field.

"Hopefully, voters' participation in using their voting rights can be an average of 82 percent, hopefully," concluded Idham.

Currently, Indonesia is preparing for the simultaneous regional elections which will take place on November 27, 2024.

The KPU previously announced that there were 1,553 pairs of regional head candidates and deputy regional heads participating in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections in 37 provinces, 415 districts, and 93 cities.
