Diligently Streeting Can Increase The Age Of Up To 11 Years, This Is The Right Duration
JAKARTA - Want to increase your life to 11 years? You don't have to go through a complicated fitness routine every day. According to researchers from Australia, you just have to walk long on a regular basis.
Recent research found people walking for 111 minutes per day, the average could live 11 years longer than those who rarely walk.
Experts have warned over the years that sitting too long or immobile could increase the risk of various health problems, such as weight gain, type 2 diabetes, cancer, leading to premature death.
Researchers from Griffith University in Queensland, Australia, suggest that people try to get to the time of walking every day. This was revealed by Dr. Lenserman, a professor of public health at Griffith University and one of the study's authors.
"I was surprised to find that the loss of years of life was largely due to low physical activity. This could be equivalent to losses caused by smoking and high blood pressure," Lennert said, quoted by VOI from the Daily Mail page.
The study involved more than 36,000 adults in the US aged 40 years and over. Their physical activity data were collected through health trackers used for at least 10 hours, within four days or more.
The researchers translated all forms of moderate to heavy exercise into minutes of walking, to facilitate comparisons between groups.
This data is then compared with death data in 2017 recorded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This is to help predict how many people will survive in the coming years, based on the level of their activity.
The results show that groups that are least active carry out activities are equivalent to 50 minutes of walking per day. The next group runs for about 80 minutes.
While the third group recorded a running time of about 110 minutes. The most active group was recorded walking for 160 minutes, almost three hours per day.
Researchers found that if someone was among the least active, their life expectancy would be reduced by 5.8 years, from around 78 years to 73 years. On the other hand, if all Americans turn 40 years and over on their activities like the top group, their life expectancy could reach 84 years, a 5.3 year increase.
Therefore, if the group that is least active adds 111 minutes of walking activity every day, they can extend their life to 11 years.
In an article published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, the researchers said, "Our findings show that physical activity provides much greater health benefits than previously thought."
They admit that this study is only observational and cannot prove directly why walking for longer can increase life expectancy.
"Infrastructure measures that encourage active transportation, pedestrian-friendly environments, and green space may be a promising approach to increasing physical activity and hopes of healthy living at the population level," he said.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that adults do at least 150 minutes of exercise with moderate intensity or 75 minutes of high intensity exercise.
The behavior of the secretary, namely the activities of people who spend time working in front of a table, then sitting on a train or car to go home, then sitting in front of the TV can cause thousands of deaths every year.
WHO also estimates that deaths due to a lack of physical activity worldwide reach around 2 million per year. This makes it one of the main causes of death and global disability.
