Mahfud Uploads DPR During The New Order Era If He Often Goes To The Region, Chooses To Take The Train

JAKARTA - Former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD brought up members of the DPR who used trains to return to the regions during the New Order era when discussing the trend of corruption among the legislature.

"Zaman of the New Order, a member of the DPR when he returns to the regions, if too often, for example every week, it takes the train. Today's DPR has almost every day taken planes everywhere," Mahfud said in a seminar entitled Ragu Corruption Eradication Policy which was monitored from Jakarta, Thursday, November 21, confiscated by Antara.

In fact, said Mahfud, his salary was clearly not sufficient for this need. This has resulted in a number of members of the DPR being caught in a corruption case.

"There are so many (DPR) who are corrupt, they forget to count how many," said Mahfud.

Not only legislative institutions, Mahfud also highlighted the rampant corruption that occurred in judicial institutions, especially the Supreme Court.

Mahfud said that what was busy at the Supreme Court was the case of buying and selling cases. He regretted this.

"Earlier, we want the Supreme Court to be independent, so that the Supreme Court is free not to be intervened by the Government. Now, because it cannot be intervened, it has become rampant in corruption," said Mahfud.

Therefore, Mahfud considered that corruption cases in Indonesia were getting worse. During the leadership of the 6th president of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), Mahfud said the corruption rate was in the nominal value of tens to hundreds of billions of rupiah.

Currently, he continued, corruption has touched trillions of rupiah and people have run out of energy to feel shocked.

"If it was every day like that, it had already been shocked. Our surprise had run out because there was too much corruption," said Mahfud.

According to him, currently the hope for Indonesia is the commitment and firmness of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in eradicating corruption in Indonesia.

Mahfud is of the view that a change of government is a momentum that must be used to eradicate corruption.

"To this day, there has been no statement (Prabowo) that has roughly expressed our hope for the eradication of corruption," said Mahfud.
