World's Largest Battery Manufacturer Ready To Build Battery Recycle Facilities In Europe
JAKARTA Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), the world's largest battery manufacturer from China, is reportedly preparing to build a battery recycling facility in Europe. This step is part of preparations for the production of battery cells at its newest factory in Debrecen, Hungary.
Reporting from CarNewsChina. Thursday, November 21, this information comes from a Bloomberg report that CATL is currently in the talks stage to realize the project.
Head of the European CATL Regional, Jason Chen, revealed that discussions related to this project are still ongoing, including plans for its implementation in Hungary.
"This recycling project can also involve collaboration with existing local companies," he said.
CATL's battery recycling measures aim to support the sustainability of its production process. The European market, which is the center of strict regulations related to battery supply chains, also offers great potential for the development of this business.
Even so, until now no formal agreement has been finalized regarding the recycling operation. However, this initiative is seen as an important strategy to comply with local regulations and strengthen supply chains in Europe.

This plan is also considered a great opportunity for CATL to expand its business in the region, although some of the main clients in the auto industry are reducing electrification targets.
"We haven't seen any significant impact so far, and we don't rely on just one customer," Chen added.
CATL itself currently serves a number of big names in the global automotive industry, such as Tesla, Volkswagen, Nio, Xpeng, Xiaomi, Toyota, and Honda. With this ambitious project, CATL strives to maintain its position as a major player in the global battery ecosystem, as well as support the transition to sustainable mobility in Europe.
