Ministry Of Public Works Invites Taiwan Consultants To Study The Improvement Of The Sutami Dam In Malang

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo said his party had hired a technical consultant from Taiwan to review the improvement of the Sutami Dam in Malang Regency, East Java Province.

Although in general the condition of the Sutami Dam is still good, its reliability and safety are deemed necessary to be confirmed again considering the age of the dam has exceeded 50 years.

"This, right, looks like it's cracked there, cracked here. That's the importance of all of us chatting, discussing all the time. Assisted by his team, Mr. Director General of Water Resources, we can fix the small ones, maintenance. So that dams as good as this can live long lives," said Dody while reviewing the Sutami Dam as quoted from the upload of the official Instagram account @kementerianpu, Thursday, November 21.

To deal with these cracks, the Ministry of Public Works has collaborated with technical consultants from Taiwan. They have also issued recommendations.

"We have summoned a champion consultant from Taiwan. Taiwan, right, is a hero of the dam. There have been recommendations, it is being reviewed with the Dam Security Commission team. This commission is under the Director General of Water Resources (Bob Arthur Lombgia)," he said.

Dody assessed that the Dam Security Commission team was finalizing the technical recommendation. When it is finished, the Ministry of Public Works will immediately allocate the budget and then start the work process.

"The technical recommendations were discussed by the Dam Security Commission, then we budgeted for it. Then, we will discuss it according to the results of the discussion between the Dam Security Commission and the appointed technical consultant," he said.

He also did not deny that the work on repairing the Sutami Dam may begin in 2025. "God willing (it will start in 2025)," he concluded.
