Latest Data: 8 People In East Java Died In Malang Earthquake, Most Hit By Buildings

SURABAYA - East Java's Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded eight deaths, as a result of a 6.1 magnitude earthquake in Malang Regency. Five of them are residents of the Lumajang Regency, and three people h residents of the Malang Regency.

"So, to date, there have been eight deaths. Five people are residents of Lumajang, and three people of Malang", said Acting Chief Executive of BPBD East Java, Yanuar Rahmadi, confirmed to reporters, Saturday, April 10, night.

Eight people died in the Malang earthquake, namely Ahmad Fadholi, Juwanto, H. Nasar, Bonami, and Sri Yani residents of Tempurrejo Village, and Kaliuling Village, in Tempursari District, Lumajang Regency. While the other three victims died, namely Imam, Munadi, and Misni, Sidorenggo villagers, and Taman Asri village, in Ampelgading Subdistrict, Malang Regency.

"Most of them died from being crushed by the rubble of house buildings", he said.

In addition to the death toll, the Malang earthquake resulted in dozens of people suffering minor, moderate, and severe injuries, scattered in various areas in East Java. Among them, 11 people in Lumajang, two people in Malang, eight people in Blitar, two people in Blitar, and one person each in Tulungagung, and Jember.

"Then there are dozens of buildings suffered minor, moderate and severe damage, in 16 districts/cities in East Java", said Yanuar.
