Potential Online Gambling Transactions Said to Reach IDR 1,000 Trillion in 2026
KEDIRI - Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives Ahmad Sahroni said that the potential for online gambling transactions has reached an astonishing figure of IDR 1,000 trillion in 2026. In 2024 alone, online gambling transactions have reached IDR 400 trillion.
Sahroni learned about the potential for online gambling transactions from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), an institution tasked with preventing and eradicating money laundering (TPPU) in Indonesia.
He hopes that the National Police Headquarters and PPATK will take firm action to eradicate online gambling perpetrators to reduce the number of transactions.
"In 2026, the PPATK's target could reach IDR 1,000 trillion, but hopefully if this is eradicated it won't be like that," said Sahroni, after filling the material for a seminar and talk show in Kediri City, East Java, last Sunday.
Sahroni said that the National Police and PPATK need to focus on eradicating online gambling according to the direction of President Prabowo Subianto. President Prabowo has instructed that online gambling be eradicated thoroughly.
According to him, it will take one year until 2026 to see the performance of the authorities whether they have truly eradicated online gambling. "We will see one year ahead," he explained.
The politician from the Nasdem Party also gave appreciation to the National Police Headquarters for the disclosure of online gambling at the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemenkomdigi).
"That's good, we will wait to see how far the National Police Headquarters will take firm action against online gambling. We will wait a week or two," he concluded.
