Heart Attack, DMX Rapper Dies

JAKARTA - Rapper DMX (Dark Man X) has died at the age of 50. The rapper, who was born Earl Simmons, died after nearly a week of living with the help of a medical device following the heart attack.

Reuters reported on Saturday, April 10, that DMX overdosed on drugs and then had a heart attack. The rapper, who was successful through the songs "Party Up (Up in Here)" and "X Gon 'Give It To Ya", was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

"We are deeply saddened to announce that today our loved one, DMX under the real name Earl Simmons, passed away at the age of 50 at White Plains Hospital. The family has been by his side to support him in recent days", the DMX family's official statement said.

The family said DMX collapsed at home and was taken to a hospital in New York. The former manager mentioned that DMX was treated with a tool because his brain did not respond.

DMX debuted in 1998 with the album "It's Dark and Hell is Hot", and he spawned five albums that successfully topped the Us Billboard 200 chart.

DMX has a habit of reading the Bible then praying before and after the show. The songs DMX usually performs are generally about "the sins of the streets" told through a complex point of view, according to a biography in allmusic.com.

Before he died, his ex-wife Tashera Simmons, who had four children, attended a fan-made event in front of the hospital, then posted the statement "Love is real" on her Instagram page.

"To one of my favorite artists since I was a teenager and to this day, DMX, my prayers to the Almighty above are with you!", tweeted LeBron James at the hospital.
