Minister Of Environment Affirms The Importance Of Waste Reduction Roadmaps By Producers

JAKARTA - The Minister of Environment and the Head of the Environmental Management Agency (BPLH), Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, encouraged producers in Indonesia to immediately compile a roadmap for reducing waste.

According to Hanif, this step is the obligation of producers in accordance with the provisions in the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry No. P.75/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/10/2019 of 2019 concerning the Roadmap for Waste Reduction by Producers.

This effort aims to support the implementation of circular economic principles in Indonesia.

"We have sent an official letter to 613 producers throughout Indonesia to immediately compile a roadmap for reducing waste," he said at the Jakarta Waste Clean Collaboration which was monitored online from Jakarta on Sunday, as quoted by Antara.

On that occasion, Hanif also appreciated the producers who have participated in the declaration of acceleration of waste management in Jakarta. The declaration includes strengthening commitment to managing organic waste from the hotel, restaurant and cafe sectors, as well as encouraging the strengthening of the circular economy.

"We have witnessed this joint commitment. We hope that the roadmap can be completed soon and the implementation is well guarded," he said.

As part of efforts to overcome waste problems, the Ministry of Environment has also written to regional heads, in particular 306 regional heads who manage landfills (TPA). They are asked to improve TPA management, replacing open dumping practices with controlled landfill systems and landfill sanitary.

The ministry is also working to ensure the availability of recycled raw materials, such as plastic and paper waste, domestically. This follows the plan to stop importing plastic waste and tighter supervision of the import of paper waste used by the industry.
