Indigenous Community Leaders Expect Peaceful Papuan Conditions During The 2024 Pilkada

JAKARTA - Papuan traditional community leader Yanto Khomlay Eluay hopes that the condition of this area will remain peaceful until the vote is on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

"The peace in Papua is determined from the attitude of the behavior of the people who live on it, so peace becomes a common task," said the Papuan traditional community leader as well as being Ondofolo (Chairman of the Central Sentani Center Yanto Khomlay Eluay in Sentani, Sunday.

According to Eluay, expressing opinions in public is legal because it has been regulated in the legislation but still maintains security and public order conditions.

"We appeal to my brothers throughout Papua who are currently in the main province to stay together to maintain peace until the voting process is complete," he said, quoted by Antara.

He explained the policies taken by the central government for Papua in principle to prosper the Papuan people in various sectors.

"The government has good intentions and intentions in every program given to Papua so it must be assessed from various sides so that peace is maintained," he said.

He emphasized that the central government's program or policy for Papua is not at all to harm the community, but to improve the welfare of the people here.

"So we invite the Papuan people to see every program or policy properly and wisely, if there are shortcomings that are considered then give constructive and good inputs for the common good," he said.

Why should you do that, said Yanto, so that there will be improvements or changes to the programs or policies of the central government for Papua.

"To all Papuan people who take actions that can disturb the security and social order so that they are stopped and let's work together to maintain peace on Papuan soil," he said.

This follows a demonstration of rejection of transmigration to Papua which led to chaos between the demonstrators and security forces in the Abepura Circle, Jayapura City on Friday (15/11) 2024.
