Barcelona 2024 MotoGP Sprint Race Results: Bagnaia Champion!
JAKARTA Francesco Bagnaia has won the 2024 Barcelona Grand Prix MotoGP Sprint Race to postpone his rival Jorge Martin has locked the world title.
The defending champion finished ahead with a time of 20 minutes 03.173 seconds in a session that took place at the Catalunya Circuit, Barcelona, Spain, on Saturday, November 16 evening WIB.
Bagnaia will lose the title if he fails to win this session, winning +0.942 seconds from his team-mate in the Ducati Lenovo Team and also his compatriot, Enea Bastianini, who trailed in second place.
Meanwhile, Martin, who needs a win in Sprint, is making sure the world title this season completes the top three with a time gap of +1,270 seconds from his rivals ahead.
This victory made Bagnaia, who won the last two seasons in this prestigious racing event, extend his breath to defend the title as well as win three consecutive seasons.
Bagnaia's victory did not change the top two places in the drivers' standings. Martin, who earns seven points from Sprint, still sits comfortably at the top with a collection of 492 points.
Meanwhile, Bagnaia trailed in second place with 473 points. The 19 points that separated them made the determination of the 2024 world title still have to be determined in the main race tomorrow.
To be able to maintain the title, Bagnaia needs to win the main race in order to keep his position safe and hopes that Martin will only add six points or finish tenth or worse than that.
If that happens then both drivers collect 498 points together. However, Bagnaia has the right to come out as a champion because it dominates the first podium this season compared to his rival.
