BRI Blocks 3,003 Accounts Indicated For Online Gambling
JAKARTA - PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk said it had blocked 3,003 accounts that were strongly indicated to be used for online gambling transaction activities.
BRI Director of Risk Management Agus Sudiarto stated that this action was BRI's effort to integrity the banking system and protect customers from harmful practices.
This blocking was carried out after the results of intensive monitoring of suspicious transaction activity and had the potential to violate the law.
"BRI is fully committed to supporting the eradication of online gambling activities and protecting our people and customers. This step is a manifestation of our responsibility in ensuring the public's safety and trust in the financial system in Indonesia," Agus said as quoted on Saturday, November 16.
Agus said that currently BRI has implemented a Risk Based Approach which is summarized in policies and standard operating procedures (SOP) related to anti-money laundering and preventing terrorism financing (PPT APPU).
This effort was made to protect BRI from the target of money laundering and terrorism, including online gambling.
"We also have an Anti Money Laundering (AML) system to monitor suspicious transactions," he added.
As part of the implementation of compliance risk management, he continued, the company also conducts an Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD).
This is a more in-depth process of Customer Due Diligence (CDD) previously known as Know Your Customer (KYC).

Agus continued, the company is also conducting browsing on various online gambling websites actively to collect data.
If an indication is found of using BRI's account to accommodate top up funds or deposits for online gambling, the online gambling website will be saved for the basis of blocking accounts.
In addition to blocking related accounts, BRI also continues to strengthen monitoring mechanisms, early detection technology, and education to the public.
Customers are advised to report suspicious activities and always maintain the confidentiality of personal data and accounts to prevent abuse.
"We also invite the entire community to play a role in eradicating detrimental illegal practices, including online gambling," said Agus.
