Garin Nugroho Presents A New Synematic Experience Through Samsara Cine-concert
Director Garin Nugroho in collaboration with Bakti Budaya presents Cine-Concert from his latest film, Samsara. A film together with music performances will appear in performances held in two cities, namely Jakarta and Jogjakarta.
The Samsara film set in Bali in the 1930s tells the story of a man from a poor family whose application was rejected from the family of his partner's parents. He entered into a supernatural agreement with the Monkey King and performed a dark ritual to get wealth but it made his family suffer.
Samsara is a silent film that combines elements of gamelan orchestra, traditional dance, masks and wayang combined with contemporary electronic music and masks.
"Mas Garin's teachings are always thick with Indonesian culture which not only spoils the ears because of this tradition and culture, including in Samsara. We can see that at the beginning there was a cultural element presented with electro music and saw there that the traditions of urban communities brought the urban community closer through the stage," said Billy Gamaliel from the Djarum Foundation at a press conference on Friday, November 15.
This Samsara film stars actor Ario Bayu and dancer Juliet Widyasari Burnett accompanied by Bali gamelan music and electronic music directed by Wayan Sudirana and Gabber Operandi Mode.
Ario Bayu studied the theater while studying abroad and had joined the production of kolos which means he has studied it. Brunette is Rendra's nephew and a well-known dancer in Australia," Garin said of the reasons for choosing the two main characters.
The Cine-Concert Samsara show will be held in Yogyakarta on December 5, 2024 at the Innovation and Creativity Center and Jakarta on December 13-15, 2024 at Graha Bhakti Budaya, Taman Ismail Marzuki.
