BMKG: Bali Air Area Is Free From Volcanic Ash Of Mount Lewotobi

BADUNG - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) through the Class I Ngurah Rai Meteorological Station in Badung Regency, Bali, stated that based on monitoring the air area of the Island of the Gods, it was free from the volcanic ash of Mount Lewotobi Laki even though it had erupted again on Friday morning.

"If there is an eruption, but the movement of the wind is not significant, the spread of volcanic ash will not be far away," said Ngurah Rai Class I Meteorological Station Data and Information Coordinator Pande Putu Hadi Wiguna, Friday, November 15.

In addition to the direction and speed of the wind, he continued, the distribution of volcanic ash from the volcano in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), was also influenced by the magnitude of the eruption and the height of the volcanic ash column.

Based on data from the Center for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BBMKG) Region III Denpasar, the wind direction in Bali is estimated to be on November 15-17, 2024, blowing from the northeast-east with speeds ranging from 30 kilometers per hour.

Meanwhile, based on observations of the Himawari-9 satellite image on Friday (15/11) at 14.00 WITA, there was a spread of volcanic ash detected up to an altitude of 14 thousand feet leading west.

Even so, the spread of volcanic ash is only in a small part of the East Flores region.

Earlier on Friday morning at 08.26 WITA, the 1.584 meter high volcano above sea level erupted again with a column height of about 2,500 meters above the peak or approximately 4,084 meters above sea level based on data from the Lewotobi Volcano Observation Post (PGA).

The absence of volcanic ash in Bali's airspace and its surroundings has also made a number of airlines return to operational service after canceling their schedule at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali.

Based on data from the manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport this Friday, all airlines have operated their flights.

There are also operational plans this Friday, there are 399 aircraft movements arriving and departing, all of which have not been canceled.
