Uproar At Five Star Hotels In Team Revitalization Due To Incomplete Information
JAKARTA - Plt Jakarta Arts Council (DKJ), Danton Sihombing, understands the inner mood of his fellow arts activists who are calling for rejection of hotel construction in the revitalization of Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM).
The acting head of the TIM arts curatorial agency admitted that PT Jakarta Propertindo (JakPro), a DKI-owned BUMD that is working on this revitalization project has not explained in detail how the hotel concept is. The management, the allocation, the allocation of hotel profits in this arts center are still unclear for them.
"Communication to us about revitalization is actually working, but not intense. Regarding hotels which are said to be 5 stars, information in the form of written statements has never been available," said Danton by telephone, Tuesday, November 26.
"So, I also don't know where the five-star information comes from. Naturally, people who hear the news will be surprised," he added.
Danton heard from the pieces of information that were circulating, there would be two types of lodging in the revitalization of TIM. The first is an art guesthouse, which was once built, and the second is a hotel.
"So, in the past, IKJ lecturers or artists from out of town came to TIM, they stayed at Wisma Seni. If this hotel was planned the Governor wanted to make a TE international standard. For example, there are foreign guests who enjoy art in TIM, or orchestra and theater players stay at the hotel. hotel there, "said Danton.
Unfortunately, JakPro was late in disseminating the hotel development plan to art activists in TIM. Instead of explaining the detailed concept of revitalization since the design of the design, this information will only be known after the construction phase 1 progresses.
"In my opinion, the problem lies in the incomplete public relations information. That must be addressed," he said.
Not to mention, the question of the concern of art activists that JakPro will take advantage of the commercialization value of the buildings in the revitalized TEAM. According to Danton, JakPro must be able to make artists understand that this BUMD only manages building facilities and infrastructure, not interfering in the realm of the arts.
If you maintain the building, JakPro can manage it. But, don't let the buildings be used for pensi and invitations. If there is that, we will be reprimanded because in our opinion the quality standard of the TIM arts must be maintained, "said Danton.
Contacted separately, JakPro Corporate Secretary Hani Sumarmo acknowledged the existence of a five-star hotel, with the nomenclature Wisma TIM. Wisma TIM is different from Wisma Seni which is equivalent to a two-star hotel.
"It's a matter of name, we call it a guesthouse, a matter of what facilities we need, so we describe it as equivalent to a five-star hotel," said Hani Sumarmo.
Hani claims that the hotel construction will not reduce artistic activities in the TIM area. The hotel building area will later take up 3,000 square meters of land, of the TIM total area of 72,551 square meters.
Then, said Hani, the 3,000 square meter land was not only used for hotel development. He said the hotel building would be combined with a library and the Center for Literary Documentation (PDS) HB Jassin.
"The hotel is only 60 percent of the 3,000 square meters of land used. The priority on the lower floor is the library. The hotel is above the library," he said.
Furthermore, the President Director of PT. Jakpro Dwi Wahyu Daryoto denied any efforts to commercialize the TIM after the revitalization. According to Dwi, the expression of commercialization is inaccurate because according to Dwi his party is doing the optimization.
"The results of optimization, not commercialization, will be returned to whoever manages this TEAM. Even if Jakpro doesn't take care of it, it doesn't become the manager, no problem," said Dwi.
At first, this rejection was loudly voiced by several art activists in a discussion entitled "Where Do PKJ-TIM Will Be Taken?" which was held at the HB Jassin Documentation Center, TIM, on Wednesday, November 20.
One of the art activists in TIM, Imam Ma'arif, who also rejected the construction of the five-star hotel, adheres to the preamble of TIM as a center for creative arts and entertainment arts. This was stated in the Decree of former DKI Governor Ali Sadikin when inaugurating the TIM in 1968.
According to Imam, the construction of a 5-star hotel by DKI Governor Anies Baswedan contradicts Ali Sadikin's intentions. He saw that Anies would put entertainment as a priority, creative art was only a complement.
"This indication can be seen from Anies' policy of handing over the mandate of PKJ-TIM management for 30 years to PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro), a regionally owned enterprise (BUMD) that has nothing to do with the life of artistic creativity," said Imam.
As one of the art activists who has been using TIM for a long time to make art, Imam feels that the DKI Provincial Government does not accommodate their views. The DKI Provincial Government seems to close its eyes to see that art activists do not need hotels to support the creation of a work.
What Imam is worried about is that all the busy business activities will dominate the PKJ TIM more than the artistic activities. For example, the management of a 5-star hotel will later become a big wall that keeps artists away from their own homes.
"You can imagine, the atmosphere and climate of art in PKJ-TIM will be damaged and transform into a pseudo-crowd. The position of PKJ-TIM is no longer the pride of the artists," he said.
Thus, Imam asked the PKJ-TIM to be returned to the muruah of Governor Ali Sadikin's decree, which also stated that the cultural enclave was managed by the artists. PKJ-TIM may not be involved in supporting DKI Jakarta's regional revenue burden (PAD).
"In essence, the PKJ TIM should not be used as an experiment in governance that puts a generation of artists at stake. If it fails, then one generation of arts will be extinct and will not be reversed," he explained.
