Police Investigate Bomb Threats At Unpar Bandung Graduation
The West Java Regional Police (Polda Jabar) conducted an investigation into the threat of bombs aimed at graduation activities at the Parahyangan Catholic University (Unpar), Bandung City.
The Head of Public Relations of the West Java Police, Kombes Jules Abraham Abast, said the threat circulated in the form of a letter of terror received by the campus ahead of the graduation ceremony which took place from 15 to 17 November 2024.
"The investigation is still ongoing. Of course we will also try to dig, we will still do an in-depth investigation into who spreads this terror. We will investigate that," Jules said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, November 15.
Jules revealed that currently the West Java Police Mobile Brigade's Explosives Disposal Team (Jhandak) has made efforts to sterilize it to ensure the safety of the campus environment ahead of graduation activities.
"From the letter, of course, we are making security efforts and other forms of effort that we are doing is sterilization," he said.
From the results of the examination and sterilization to date, he said, the police have not found any signs that support the truth of the bomb threat.
"Currently we haven't found it. This means that the threat letter can certainly be handled wisely by both the campus and the entire community of Bandung City," said Jules.
Jules said that although there was no supporting evidence against the threat, the police continued to increase security by deploying 100 personnel during the graduation ceremony at Unpar.
"Starting this morning, security will still be carried out by the police, there are approximately 100 personnel that we have involved to secure the implementation of the graduation," he said.
The West Java Regional Police promised to reveal the parties behind this terror and take firm action against perpetrators who are trying to cause fear among campuses and the community, especially in the city of Bandung.
"As soon as possible, we can reveal who the perpetrators are trying to cause concern in the community or especially to the campus by spreading terror and untrue news," he said.
