Rupiah Weakened 0.27 Percent To Rp16,495 Per US Dollar
JAKARTA - The movement of the rupiah exchange rate ended weakening on Thursday, April 2 trading. The rupiah weakened 45 points or 0.27 percent to a level of Rp16,495 per US dollar.
Head of Research at Monex Investindo Futures, Ariston Tjendra, said the market was still comfortable getting out of risky assets due to the increasing spread of the COVID-19 outbreak.
"Positive cases of COVID-19 in the US have reached 200 thousand. The increase has also occurred in Italy, England, including Indonesia," said Ariston to VOI.
This afternoon, apart from the rupiah, only the Japanese yen is still at home in the red zone. In today's trade, the Japanese yen is seen weakening 0.20 percent.
Meanwhile, the Singapore dollar was the biggest strengthening currency after gaining 0.36 percent. This was followed by the Thai baht and Indian rupee which both gained 0.17 percent.
The Malaysian ringgit, which had become the currency with the deepest weakness today, has now gained 0.15 percent. The same thing happened to the South Korean won, which has risen 0.10 percent, although at the beginning of trading it had weakened to 0.81 percent.
