MIND ID Confirms Coal Downstreaming Will Be For EV Ecosystem
JAKARTA The state-owned mining industry holding, MIND ID ensures that it will strengthen coal downstream to support the acceleration of the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem (EV) in Indonesia. As part of this strategy, MIND ID focuses on using coal as raw material for EV battery anodes and synthetic graphite.
The resulting synthetic graphite product is a raw material for coal-based alternative anodes, which offer more sustainable coal utilization potential.
Director of Portfolio and Business Development MIND ID, Dilo Seno Widagdo, stated that coal downstreaming is an important step in diversifying the value of Indonesia's natural resource benefits.
The development of raw materials for battery anodes for electric vehicles is one concrete example of this downstream effort.
"We have a coal downstream program that is focused on supporting the electric vehicle ecosystem," said Dilo, Thursday, November 14.
Dilo also explained that MIND ID ensures that the conductivity (conductivity) and density (density) of the raw materials developed meet the desired standards.

This aims to ensure that the products produced have superior quality and can meet international requirements.
"As part of our commitment, we will build pilot scale (pilot scale) facilities to improve the quality of this anode raw material. We want to ensure that the quality of the raw materials developed are in accordance with international standards," he added.
Furthermore, Dilo said that the commercial production of synthetic graphite is expected to start in 2028. Currently, the MIND ID Group, through PT Bukit Asam Tbk, is conducting intensive research to achieve optimal results so that commercial production can begin immediately.
