Indonesia's Digital Competitiveness Rises Two Ranks, Still Losing To 3 Other Southeast Asian Countries

JAKARTA - Research at the International Institute for Management Development World Digital Competitiveness Ranking (IMD WDCR) 2024, revealed that Indonesia's digital competitiveness ranking rose by two places to 43 in the world, out of a total of 67 countries.

In the last five years, Indonesia's digital competitiveness has continued to rise from 56 (2020), 53 (2021), 51 (2022), 45 (2023), and now to 43 (2024).

However, when compared to a number of countries in Southeast Asia, Indonesia's ranking is quite lagging behind. Indonesia is recorded to be only superior to the Philippines.

The following is a list of the top five countries with the best digital competitiveness in Southeast Asia:

When compared to a number of other Asian countries, Indonesia's digital competitiveness rankings are still better than India (51) and Turkey (55).

Of the 52 criteria for assessing the competitiveness of a country, Indonesia's broadband internet speed is relatively slow and only ranks 66 out of 67 countries.

Indonesia is noted to still need improvements to increase the number of internet users ranked 64th, software piracy (ranked 63), education and technology training (ranked 63), and the number of artificial intelligence research articles (AI) published in the journal scopus (63).

However, the research states that the success of Indonesia's digital competitiveness up two rankings this year was boosted by the high rate of technology investment.

Indonesia recorded brilliant achievements for technology from banking and financial services (peringkat 2), telecommunications investment (peringkat 3), and venture capital (venture capital) for technology companies (peringkat 5).
