NTT Police Arrest Alleged Perpetrators Of TIP Internship Mode To Taiwan

The Investigation Team of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) from the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of the NTT Police has succeeded in arresting the suspect with the initials VN (29) related to the alleged case of trafficking in persons with the mode of apprenticeship to Taiwan.

The Head of Public Relations of the East Nusa Tenggara Police, Kombes Ariasandy, said that the arrest of VN was carried out in Bali, on Tuesday (12/11) yesterday.

The former East Flores Police Chief said the arrest of VN was made when the suspect was about to send two victims, SSA (24) and AB (20), to Taiwan.

From the results of the examination of the suspect, it was stated that the victim was recruited online using a WhatsApp group called the "excessive education center".

After that, the victim was directed to depart from Kupang to Denpasar using one of the national airlines on Tuesday (12/11) yesterday. The victim was promised to depart on Wednesday (13/11) today.

"The victim was dispatched non-procedurally with the mode of apprenticeship, but without preparation such as language training, cultural recognition, and without a work contract or adequate health and shelter guarantee in Taiwan," he said.

This shows that the trade regulations offered are not in accordance with the provisions, but are controlled by VN suspects.

Suspect VN plans that the victim works as a kitchen attendant at a hotel in Taiwan with a salary of around Rp. 8 million per month, but is deducted by Rp. 5 million every month for eight months.

"This cut is claimed as a replacement fee for the departure, accommodation, and personal gain of the suspect," said Ariasandy.

Regarding the articles violated, Ariasandy said the suspect violated Article 4, Article 10, and Article 11 of Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of TIP, as well as Article 81 of Law Number 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers

Furthermore, the TIP Unit will continue the investigation process by examining witnesses, holding cases, and coordinating with the Manpower Office and the Prosecutor's Office.

They will also apply for protection and calculation of restitution to the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) in Jakarta.
