Indonesian Wantannas Needs To Strengthen Authority In Facing Increasingly Dynamic Global Threats

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Wantannas calls for institutional strengthening in order to be more responsive in dealing with various global security threats that are increasingly widespread and multidimensional.

University of Indonesia Hankam expert, Kusnanto Anggoro said, geopolitical and geostrategy dynamics in the world continue to influence the national security situation, bringing up threats not only covering the military aspect but also cyber, economy, terrorism, to social and cultural resilience.

According to Kusnanto, as an institution tasked with supporting the President in formulating national resilience policies, Wantannas is considered necessary to strengthen its authority to be more adaptive to facing increasingly dynamic threats.

"Currently, the Indonesian Wantannas focuses more on fostering long-term national resilience and strategic studies, but is limited in making direct decisions in urgent crisis situations," he said in Central Jakarta, Tuesday, November 12.

In this gathering, it was also discussed about threats to national security now covering aspects of non-military, such as terrorism, cybercrime, climate change, and the global pandemic.

Discussions also highlight the best practices from the National Security Council in various countries to inspire the development of more adaptive Wantannas.

In the future, the Indonesian Wantannas must focus on preparing an adaptive national security strategy for changes in the domestic and global environment, drafting strategic scripts, contingency plans, and projecting future threats.

Thus, it is hoped that Wantannas can help create strong and integrated national security, making Indonesia more prepared to face the growing security challenges.

Meanwhile, Secretary General of the National Resilience Council (Wantanas) Admiral TNI TSNB Hutabarat hopes that the results of the discussion can bring tangible benefits in strengthening Indonesia's national resilience.

"Wantanas will continue to increase its response and effectiveness in supporting national stability and providing strategic input for the government in facing dynamic security challenges," he said.
