Discussion On The Construction Of Three Million Houses, BTN Ready To Support Government Programs

JAKARTA - The provision of three million houses as a government program is one of the solutions for public housing. This is a discussion material between the Housing and Settlement Areas, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Ministry of ATR BPN, together with BTN.

At the discussion event with the theme Program 3 Million Mutual Cooperation Building Houses for the People, various solutions were discussed for the problem of meeting people's homes, ranging from providing land, licensing, to proposals regarding relaxation of property taxes to ease the price of property production, so that it is more affordable for the community.

The Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas, Maruar Sirait, said that he would synergize with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Home Affairs to realize the program of three million houses for the people.

"If the distribution of land can be free and cheap, then efficiency can be done, the ease of licensing also occurs, I think the Three Million House program can increase the turnover of developers extraordinaryly. Next year, I dare to say that there are many changes that will involve housing both on the business and social side. So, I ask the developers to prepare themselves well," said Maruar Sirait in a release received by VOI editors, Tuesday, November 12, 2024.

During the discussion, BTN President Director Nixon LP Napitupulu said BTN had distributed 5.5 million subsidized and non-subsidized mortgages either through Conventional mortgages or sharia financing since 1976. Recently, said Nixon, more and more millennials, women, and informal sector workers have bought the first house with mortgages, so the prospects for the Indonesian housing sector are very prospective in the future.

"Especially for informal sector workers, we can imagine if there is no subsidized housing program, they cannot buy a house. In addition, Indonesia still has a national issue, namely the backlog of ownership of 9.9 million houses, and more than 50% of poor people live in uninhabitable houses. Based on data from PLN, the figure is up to 24 million uninhabitable houses," said Nixon LP Napitupulu.

BTN provides input to the government so that people's home programs can be realized in the long term, because the housing sector has a multiplier effect or a derivative impact on 185 other sub-sectors, the majority of which are labor-intensive.
