Yuto Nagatomo Touched By Fans' Response In Indonesia
JAKARTA - Yuto Nagatomo, Japan's national team defender, was touched by the warm welcome from the Indonesian people when he arrived at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, on Monday 11 November. Nagatomo expressed his happiness to be able to come to Jakarta and play against Indonesia in the Third Round of the 2026 Asian Zone World Cup Qualification. This match will take place on Friday 115 November at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Senayan, Jakarta (2).
Nagatomo also acknowledged the greatness of the Indonesian national team and mentioned that he was very happy to be playing against Indonesia. He also added that he could not wait to meet the Chairman of PSSI, Erick Thohir, who is also a former owner of Inter Milan (3).
The large number of welcomes at the airport received appreciation from Nagatomo. This veteran defender was impressed because of the enthusiasm of the Indonesian people who welcomed them in the early hours of WIB. "I felt a very high football fever. I arrived at the airport at 2 am, and there were about 10 TV cameras and fans gathered there (4). Rarely saw like this. I am very jealous," said Nagatomo.

Nagatomo also shared the experience of the first exercise in Jakarta. "I was very touched when we arrived at the airport. Your supporters came to the airport and welcomed us," Nagatomo told the media crew. "The first time I left the airport, I knew this country was extraordinary. I am very happy here and also very happy to be able to fight Indonesia," he explained.
Nagatomo's Hope For The Match
Nagatomo hopes that the enthusiasm of Indonesian fans will continue during the match. "I thank you for the cheers of 70,000 away fans, and that really makes me excited," said Nagatomo. "I don't care if it's 70,000 or 100,000 viewers. I just want them all to come to watch the match," said the Tokyo FC defender.
The Japanese national team currently leads Group C with 10 points from three wins and one draw, a position that puts them on the fast path to the 2026 World Cup. To strengthen their chances of qualifying, Japan must win six points from the match against Indonesia and China this November. Nagatomo is ready to face fast players in the final qualifying round later.
