Mazda Confirms Iconic SP Will Be Mass Produced

JAKARTA - After being first featured at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show, the Mazda Iconic SP concept car stole a lot of attention. Now, Mazda has confirmed that it will produce the concept car.

Based on a report from Carguide, quoted Monday, November 11, when JMS last year Mazda was still silent about whether this one model would be produced or not. However, one year later (2024) was answered where the car would be produced.

"This concept (Mazda Sport Iconic SP) is not only one of the empty exhibition cars, but has been designed with a real goal of turning it into a production model in the near future," said General Manager Mazda at Masashi Nakayama Design Division.

Executive Officials at the Research and Development Strategy Planning Division Mazda Naohito Saga, ensure that in the process of developing everything from the door and tire positions, to the length of the vehicle, passenger seats and visibility are carefully examined before reaching the final specifications.

"This really shows how much we want to make it a car that realizes Mazda's commitment to the future, especially in terms of the sustainability and role of our rotary engine technology in the future," said Naohito Saga.

Later this model is rumored to be the successors of MRX-7 and RX-8. Mazda has also hinted that this car will have the same dimension as the MX-5 roadster size, and the weight will also be lighter than the MX-5.

In the form of the concept, the Iconic SP displays an EV system and an expansion of the reach of a dual rotor rotor rotor. Overall, it generates 370 HP which is channeled through the rear wheels.

By design, the Iconic SP emphasizes a minimalist design that makes the model look elegant. Reportedly this car was also made taking into account sustainability using fiber and dyes derived from plants.
