Prabowo Approves Candidates for Leader and Supervisory Board Results of Selection Committee in Jokowi Era, KPK: Hopefully the Best Will Be Chosen
JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) hopes that the Indonesian House of Representatives will choose the best figures as leaders and supervisory board through a fit and proper test.
This hope was conveyed by KPK Spokesperson Tessa Mahardika when asked about President Prabowo Subianto's stance that he would not reshuffle the 10 names of the candidates for leadership and supervisory board. He said that whoever is chosen is expected to be the best figure.
"The KPK hopes that the best KPK Leadership and Supervisory Board will be chosen from the candidates whose names have been submitted to the Indonesian House of Representatives," he told reporters as quoted on Monday, November 11.
Tessa said that the 10 names for leadership and supervisory board chosen by the selection committee during the era of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) were good. Therefore, the KPK is leaving the process entirely to the Indonesian House of Representatives.
"The 10 candidates for KPK leadership and supervisory board are currently the best (choices, ed.)," he said.
Previously reported, Coordinating Minister for Law and Human Rights, Immigration and Passport, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, said that President Prabowo Subianto approved 10 names of KPK leadership and supervisory board candidates proposed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
The ten names are Agus Joko Pramono, Ahmad Alamsyah Saragih, Djoko Poerwanto, Fitroh Rohcahyanto, Ibnu Basuki Widodo, Ida Budhiati, Johanis Tanak, Michael Rolandi Cesnanta Brata, Poengky Indarti, and Setyo Budiyanto.
"The DPR is welcome to process the names to select five names to be determined by the president," said Yusril as confirmed in Jakarta, Friday, November 8, quoted by Antara.
Yusril said that these names would not be withdrawn because the government is aware that it will take six months to repeat this process. This is in accordance with Article 30 of Law Number 30 of 2022 concerning the Corruption Eradication Commission.
Meanwhile, the legal considerations of the 2022 Constitutional Court ruling regarding the extension of the term of office of the KPK leadership stated that the president is only given one opportunity to submit the names of KPK leadership candidates to the DPR.
Therefore, Prabowo has sent a Presidential Letter (Surpres) to answer the DPR RI Leadership who asked about the withdrawal of the names. "This is a middle way so that Article 30 of the KPK Law is complied with and the Constitutional Court Decision is also complied with," explained Yusril.
"This middle way, God willing, can overcome the possibility of a vacuum in the KPK Leadership which will end at the end of December," he concluded.
