Meeting The Speaker Of The Singapore And Portugal Parliaments, Puan Discusses The Empowerment Of The Young Generation To Keroncong

JAKARTA - The chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, held a bilateral meeting with the Speaker of the Singapore Parliament, Seah Kian Peng on the sidelines of the 10th G20 Parliamentary Speaker's Summit (P20) which was held in Brazil, South America. During the meeting, the two discussed cooperation to improve the quality of the younger generation for the contribution to develop the country.

The call between Puan and the Speaker of the Singapore Parliament, Seah Kian Peng, was held during a break at the P20 Summit, which is a parliamentary leadership forum for the G20 countries. The P20 summit was held at the National Congress of Brazil or the Brazilian parliamentary office in the Brazilian capital.

"I hope that relations between the people of the two countries can involve the younger generation more. This will be an investment for the good relations of the two countries in the future," said Puan in a meeting with Seah Kian Peng, Thursday (7/11/2024) evening Brazil time.

Puan said that the close increase in relations between the people of the two countries was very important because it could be a pillar of the solid relationship between Indonesia and Singapore.

"Relations between communities can be carried out through cooperation in education, socio-cultural, and tourism. Through this sector, the people of the two countries can get to know each other," he said.

"Indonesia wants to improve the quality of its young generation, which is expected to be done in collaboration with Singapore," continued Puan.

On this occasion, Puan also expressed her gratitude for the congratulations from the Speaker of the Singapore Parliament to her after being elected for the second time as Chair of the DPR RI. He also expressed his commitment to continue and strengthen the cooperation between the DPR and the Singapore Parliament.

"As two neighboring countries, Indonesia and Singapore have an interest in maintaining friendly bilateral relations," said Puan.

"We must continue to carry out dialogue and consultations related to various issues. In this case, dialogue between parliaments can also contribute to increasing mutual understanding between the two countries and the nation," continued Bung Karno's grandson.

According to Puan, Indonesia and Singapore also have an interest in creating a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Southeast Asia so that countries in the region can carry out the development process.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries on September 7, 1967, Singapore, called Puan, has become a close friend country that has an important meaning for Indonesia's national interests and regional interests.

For Indonesia, Singapore is an important partner who is the largest source of investment, the third largest trading partner, as well as education development partners, research and training. The good relations between the two countries are reflected in the ongoing intensity between leaders and high-ranking officials of the two countries which continues to increase from year to year.

"I hope Singapore's support for the achievement of Indonesia Gold 2045 is for Indonesia to become a developed country in 2045," said Puan.

Puan then mentioned the cooperation between Parliaments, where with the new DPR membership for the 2024-2029 period, it is hoped that the cooperation that has been established so far between the parliaments of the two countries can be continued and improved.

"I will support the DPR for this period to reshape the Bilateral Cooperation Group (GKSB) of the DPR RI-Parlemen Singapore," said the first woman to serve as Chair of the DPR RI.
