At The G20 State Parliament Forum, Puan Sindir Israel Ignores World Calls To Stop War
JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, attended the 10th G20 Parliamentary Speaker's Summit (P20) which was held in Brazil, South America. On the last day of the Summit (KTT) for the parliamentary forum of the G20 countries, Puan mentioned about Israel's unwillingness to stop attacks on Palestine.
After conveying Indonesia's message at sessions 1 and 2 of the P20 Summit held at the National Congress of Brazil or the Brazilian parliamentary office in the capital Brasilia, Puan again spoke at the third session of this forum.
Puan attended the P20 Summit in Brazil accompanied by a delegation from the DPR, namely Deputy Chairperson of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) Irine Yusiana Roba Putri, Deputy Chairman of Commission XII DPR Dony Maryadi and Member of Commission III of the DPR Gilang Dhielafararez.
The meeting of the third session of the 10th P20 raised the theme 'Parliament in Global Governance Development which Is Adjusted to the Challenges of the 21st Century'. Puan was lined up to be the fourth speaker after the Chairman of the Italian Parliament, Lorenzo Fontana.
At the beginning of her statement, Puan alluded to war, conflict and geopolitical tensions that continue to pose serious threats to international peace and security. In addition, the problem of climate change, competition of major countries, and global fragmentation have also exacerbated the situation and caused more uncertainty.
"The world continues to be vigilant. All these prolonged global issues have raised questions about the relevance of current global governance," said Puan, Friday (8/11/2024) Brazil time.
According to Puan, the international community should need to mobilize global actions in overcoming these various global challenges.
"But instead of strengthening international cooperation for joint action, some countries take unilateral action, and even ignore international law and the United Nations Charter," he said.
Puan said that this was what happened in the conflict in Gaza where due to the escalation of the war in the Palestinian territories, many civilians had fallen victim. He considered the Israeli side to be deliberately ignorant of peace efforts.
"This is what we see in Gaza where calls for the international community to end the war are ignored by Israel," said Puan firmly in front of the parliamentary leaders of the G20 countries.
Furthermore, the first woman to serve as Chair of the DPR stated that current global governance is not appropriate to solve the global problems that are currently happening. According to Puan, the problem of the 21st century requires a solution to the 21st century because when the world faces different challenges from the past.
"We have entered a multipolar world, where no country can solve global problems alone," said the grandson of the Proclaimer of the Republic of Indonesia, Bung Karno.
Puan added that multipolarity can create more uncertainty and complexity without the agreed engagement rules. So the G20 forum as a country with the world's major economic power is considered to be present to contribute to solving common problems.
"Currently we have more players, including middle-class countries and developing countries," said Puan.
Apart from that, Puan said that now more players cannot guarantee being able to manage with various global problems.
"The only way to overcome this complexity is through reformed and strong multilateralism. This will avoid further fragmentation and polarization between countries," said the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.
