US Judge: Meta CEO Doesn't Need To Be Responsible In Social Media Addiction Cases

JAKARTA The plaintiffs from a dozen countries said Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg should be responsible for the case of Social Media Addiction to Youth, but the judge did not seem to agree.

Before the judge expressed his opinion, the plaintiffs called Zuckerberg the'supervisor spirit' behind attempts to hide mental health risks on Meta's platforms, such as Instagram and Facebook.

These allegations arise because Zuckerberg has ignored internal warnings about the bad effects of his platform over and over again. Not only ignoring the risks it poses to its platform, Zuckerberg is also claimed to underestimate this issue in public.

US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, citing Reuters, said Zuckerberg could not personally take responsibility for 25 lawsuits targeting his company. This statement was issued on November 7 last.

Rogers explained more specific information about Zuckerberg's mistake was not strong enough. The judge also said that, "control over the company's activities alone is not enough (to declare Zuckerberg responsible)."

Previn Warren, a representative of the plaintiffs, said his client would continue to gather evidence to reveal the company's negligence, including the company's act of deliberately ignoring the safety and mental health of children.

This case is a fraction of the cases Meta is currently facing. The company is facing hundreds of lawsuits alongside Alphabet, TikTok, and Snap filed by children, outgoing parties, and schools.

A number of US countries involved in this lawsuit are Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin. The plaintiffs demanded compensation from Meta and other companies.
