KPU: Repeated Regional Elections Planned for September 2025

JAKARTA - KPU Chairman Mochammad Afifuddin said that the repeat regional elections are planned to be held in September 2025.

This has also been discussed with Commission II of the DPR. Even so, the details of the stages will be discussed after the regional election process is underway.

"We have discussed this in Commission II. The point is that we will hold repeat regional elections, the details of which we will discuss. That is planned for September 2025," said Afifuddin as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, November 9.

Meanwhile, regions holding repeat regional elections will be led by acting (Pj) regions.

"But the spirit of the regional elections is if the empty box wins, it will be expedited so that the regional elections can be held again," he said.

Previously, in the Hearing Meeting (RDP) of Commission II of the DPR with the Ministry of Home Affairs, the General Election Commission, the Election Supervisory Body and the Election Organizer Honorary Council agreed to repeat regional head elections in 2025 if the empty box wins against a single candidate.

"Regions with regional elections consisting of only one candidate pair and not getting more than 50 percent of the vote, we agree that the regional elections will be held again in the following year, namely 2025, as stipulated in Article 54D of Law Number 10 of 2016 concerning Regional Elections," said Chairman of Commission II of the DPR, Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung.

Furthermore, the RDP decided that Commission II of the DPR will discuss further with the Ministry of Home Affairs, KPU, Bawaslu, and DKPP.

regarding the KPU Regulation (PKPU) governing the implementation of regional elections with one candidate pair at the upcoming working meeting and RDP.

"We will continue on September 27 for the draft PKPU," said Doli before closing the Commission II RDP.
