Mount Lewotobi Men Vomit Abu As High As 10 Km This Morning
JAKARTA - Mount Lewotobi Male-Laki in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara erupted again by vomiting volcanic ash about 9 kilometers into the air from the crater peak or 10 kilometers from sea level, Saturday morning, November 9.
Volcano monitoring post officer Geological Agency Emanuel Rofinus reported that the volcanic activity of Mount Lewotobi Laki is still ongoing from 04.47 WITA.
Volcano monitoring post officers from the Geological Agency in Wulanggitang, East Flores observed the height of the gray ash column with thick intensity leaning towards the southwest, west, and northwest.
The eruption this morning was known to be much larger than at least four eruptions that occurred Friday (8/11), at 12.00-18.00 WITA, which spewed volcanic ash with a column height of 2.5-8 kilometers.
However, the Geological Agency still stipulates that the status of Mount Lewotobi's volcanic activity is at level IV or Alert.
Masyarakat maupun wisatawan tetap diminta tidak melakukan aktivitas apapun dalam radius 7 kilometer dari pusat rupsi serta 8 kilometer dalam arah barat daya, barat dan barat laut dari pusat rupsi Gunung Lewotobi Laki-Laki.
Mount Lewotobi Laki is one of the active volcanoes in NTT which has been fluctuating for most of the year.
The Geological Agency has upgraded its status to level IV (Awas) starting Sunday (3/11), at 24.00 WITA. The increase in status is based on the results of the evaluation of the increase in activity for the period 23 October-3 November 2024, at 18.00 WITA.
A total of 8,431 residents were displaced due to a series of eruptions based on data reported by BPBD Flores Timur, Friday (8/11) night. The victims were residents of Titihaena, Wulangitang, Ile Bura, Demon Pangong, Larantuka, Sikka, Ile Mandiri, and East Adonara sub-districts.
