Lee Carsley Ready To Leave The British Manager's Position, Leave The Estate Stick To Tuchel
JAKARTA - Lee Carsley will leave the post of interim manager of the England national team after the English Football Federation (FA) officially appointed Thomas Tuchel.
Tuchel was confirmed as the permanent manager of the Three Lions on October 16, 2024 to replace Gareth Southgate who stepped down after Euro 2024.
The German will start working as of January 1, 2025 to lead the team in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in the European Zone.
The 51-year-old manager will be assisted by Anthony Barry, who has worked with him at Chelsea and Bayern Munich as an assistant.
This means that Carsley will remain the interim coach of the Three Lions until this year's match is over.
Carsley has two games left this year, namely against Greece (15 November 2024) and the Republic of Ireland (18 November 2024) in the 2024/2025 UEFA Nations League.
"I've spoken to him (Tuchel) via text message. It's really a congratulations," Carsley said on Thursday, November 7, 2024, local time.
Carsley further revealed that he was indeed ready to take off his seat as interim manager.
He also thanked the FA for giving the opportunity to lead the senior team Three Lions.
Carsley had previously stated that the position did not deserve to be held.
"I still see this as a huge privilege. The trust has been shown by the FA to me and the entire staff."
"These are the last two games. We are really looking forward to difficult matches in Greece and the Republic of Ireland," said Carsley.
For the remaining two matches, Carsley emphasized that Thomas Tuchel had not interfered with the team even though it was inaugurated in October 2024.
Carsley revealed that Tuchel has great respect for his position because it is not yet officially on duty.
The German has fully entrusted Carsley to lead England in the last two games of the year.
"I think he has great respect for this job. We are left to do as we always do."
"He (Tuchel) has no influence in the squad election (for the next two matches)," said Carsley.
Meanwhile, Carsley is well aware of his capacity. He has never led a big team or senior level.
During his coaching career, he had only committed Coventry City as a caretaker, Brentford in Championship, Birmingham City (caretaker), England U-20, and England U-21.
