KLHK Encourages Java Power Plant 9 And 10 As Role Model Of Environmentally Friendly Plant
JAKARTA - The efforts of Steam Power Plant (PLTU) Java 9 & 10 to organize its business by paying attention to environmental sustainability received recognition in the Indonesia Green Award (IGA) 2021.
The plant is considered environmentally friendly because of the advanced technology used. With this initiation, PT Indo Raya Tenaga (IRT) as the manager of the plant, is able to reduce the emissions of SOx, particulate, and NOx pollutants to far below the maximum conditions recommended by the government.
Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) also assessed, the construction of Java Power Plant 9 & 10 should be a role model for the development of environmentally friendly plants. According to him, Indo Raya Tenaga as the developer of the plant is seriously committed to creating an environmentally friendly power plant.
"This can change the awareness of entrepreneurs about responsibility," said KLHK Deputy Minister Alue Dohong after attending the IGA 2021 at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta, Wednesday, April 7.
He said that the existence of companies such as IRT, raises awareness of entrepreneurs to maintain environmental sustainability. With the main objective, preventing natural damage due to emissions or exhaust gases coming out of the power plant or plant.
Moreover, according to him, today there are still many entrepreneurs who are ignorant of it. Alue also encouraged entrepreneurs to dare to issue new breakthroughs, preventing environmental damage, such as the manager of the Java Power Plant 9 & 10.
"And it can make the branding of the business better. Because, not just chasing profit alone. But also pay attention to social as well," he explained.
If there is no change in business efforts to pay more attention to the environment, Alue worries, it will cause drastic climate change. In fact, it can cause natural disasters such as floods, droughts, to increase sea level.
IGA organizers this time gave awards to IRT with the category of companies that Pioneered Environmentally Friendly Power Plants with Advanced Technology. Technologies such as Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD), Electro Static Precipitator (ESP), Low Nox Burner, and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) are also used to reduce air emissions in the form of SOx, particulate, and NOx.
The construction of the power plant, which also installs Ultra Super Critical (USC) and uses the main equipment made by the Organisation of Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo through groundbreaking in 2017.
Since the development phase, PLTU 9 & 10 is considered klhk and IGA organizers, has made a number of environmental conservation efforts, including greening and nature conservation.
Embedding the award as a pioneer of technologically advanced power plants that are environmentally friendly to the Java Power Plant 9 & 10 is something that is appreciated by the management of IRT. This award is also interpreted as a form of environmental maintenance commitment which is the basic principle of doing business in Java Power Plant 9 & 10.
"We are the only one in Indonesia that uses the most complete technology, including SCR. Our commitment can be recognized at least by the government, namely klhk. In addition, there is also a sense of achievement personally, arguably people gadangkan green, we are trying to make it as green as possible for a reliable base load," said President Director of Indo Raya Tenaga Peter Widjaya.
According to the regulations, the standard quality of SOx, Particulate, and NOx for power plants in this construction phase are 550 mg/Nm3, 100 mg/Nm3, 550 mg/Nm3, however, with the technology used by Java 9&10 generation, the figures are trimmed to below 350 mg/Nm3, 30 mg/Nm3, and 128mg/Nm3, respectively for SOx, Particulate, and NOx.
"It is quite low, but we believe it will be far below that if the fuel supplied according to the manufacturer's standards," said Peter who was accompanied by other IRT Directors, Jinyoung Jeong and Moch. Chairul.
He continued, Java Power Plant 9 & 10 whose 51 percent ownership in PLN is a showcase of the government's success in attracting private parties and international banks to fund mega projects without government guarantees and without burdening the state budget.
"The Project Financing process is very laborious, there has been no precedent for joint ventures like this, especially last year we FC (Financial Closing - red.) pandemic time," he concluded.
