England National Team Summons Two New Names For UEFA Nations League
JAKARTA - The England international interim manager, Lee Carsley, gave Southampton defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Newcastle United full-back Lewis Hall the opportunity for his first senior team call.
Three Lions will prepare to face two UEFA Nations League 2024/2025 parties in mid-November 2024.
Harwood-Bellis was England's Under-21 captain during Carsley's tenure. The 22-year-old has played every game for Southampton in the Premier League this season.
However, Taylor Harwood-Bellis has not been able to bring The Saints to fly high. Currently Southampton is in 19th position in the league standings after passing 10 matches.
"They are both players who have played a lot of minutes this season. They have shown that they can play consistently in the Premier League at a high level. They are players I know very well."
"I have had close and longstanding relationships with Taylor since Manchester City and England's U-21 captain."
"He had a successful summer, got promoted and is now playing in the Premier League week after week."
"He's a player who really deserves it. An extraordinary captain. A brilliant example for other players in England U-21," Carsley said.
Then, Hall has established itself as Newcastle United's first left back of choice this season.
He just finished a permanent move to St. James' Park last summer. He spent last season on loan with Eddie Howe's side, making 22 appearances in all competitions and scoring two goals.
The two defenders are part of the eight players who won Euro U-21 under Carsley in the 2023 edition.
The eight names are Harwood-Bellis, Hall, Cole Palmer, Angel Gomes, Anthony Gordon, Noni Madueke, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Levi Colwill. They are now trusted to fill the senior squad.
"Meanwhile Lewis is a player who needs time to adapt. High quality, left-handed, as you say, a player who deserves to play."
"He showed that he could be very consistent. I can't wait to work with him."
"I've worked with Lewis several times. So, there is stiff competition at right-back in terms of the number of right-backs we have."
"We don't have the same problems or challenges at left-back. So, it's a good challenge for Lewis to see if he can maintain that position for the first time," Carsley told a news conference on Thursday, November 7, 2024, local time.
Curtis Jones of Liverpool, who received his first call in October 2024, has maintained his place in the squad.
Meanwhile, Tino Livramento left. John Stones was not included after suffering an injury.
However, Stones partners at Manchester City, Kyle Walker, Rico Lewis, and Jack Grealish, will join the Three Lions.
Unfortunately, midfielder Morgan Rogers, who is brilliant at Aston Villa, has no place in the Carsley squad. In fact, he has become a key player for Unai Emery this season.
Apart from that, the England national team will face the leader of Group B2, Greece, in Athens on November 14, 2024, before ending the UEFA Nations League campaign by hosting the Republic of Ireland at Wembley on November 17, 2024.
The UK will secure a promotion back to the UEFA Nations League League if they win their last two games.
If they finish in second place in the standings, the Three Lions will play a two-legged playoffs against a third-final team in Liga A.
