The Indonesian Navy And The Russian Navy Completed Joint Exercises In The Java Sea

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Navy (AL) and the Russian Navy arrived at the 2024 Orruda Joint Exercise (Latma) after completing the sea phase in the Java Sea, close to Surabaya, East Java, Friday, November 8.

Latma Orruda 2024 is the first joint exercise attended by the Indonesian Navy and the Russian Navy in Surabaya on November 4, 2024.

In the 2024 Latma Orruda, the Indonesian Navy deployed one KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332 frigate and one KRI corvette Frans Kaisiepo-368, as well as one submarine anti-ship helicopter from the Indonesian Navy Aviation Center (Puspenerbal) AS565 MBe Panther.

Meanwhile, the Russian Navy deployed two of its corvettes, RFS Gromky and RFS Aldar Tsydenzhapov, then one RFS Rezkiy frigate, and one RFS Pechenga medium tanker.

The warships from the two countries for two days participated in a series of sea phase exercises for maritime security operations, which on the first day included tactical maneuvers, communication exercises using flag flags (flaghoits), embarkation exercises (boardex), then ship light weapons firing at sea (safas), exchange of personnel between Indonesian and Russian warships, code-check communication exercise using flashex.

Then on the second day, Russian and Indonesian warships continued the evacuation of victims from the ship's deck to the helicopter (vertical review), the formation of ships for aerial photos (photoex), and the closure of the training session marked by the separation procession (farewell and salute).

Russian warships originating from the Russian Navy Pacific Fleet then continued their voyage to their headquarters, passing through Thailand. Meanwhile, Indonesian warships returned to their headquarters at Fleet II Command, Surabaya.

In the Latma Orruda series, the Russian Navy also sent the submarine B-588 Ufa and the Rescue tug salvage to Surabaya. The two ships docked at North Jamrud Pier, Tanjung Perak Port, since Thursday 7 November, for friendly visits (port visit).

In Surabaya, Commander of the Russian Navy Submarine (RNS) Ufa Captain 2nd Rank Andrey Barkov visited the Koarmada II Command Headquarters and met with the Commander of the Submarine Unit (Dansatsel) Koarmada II Marine Colonel (P) Yulius Azz Zaenal at the Bramastra Building of the Koarmada II Satsel, Surabaya, Friday.

Dansatsel Koarmada II expressed its hope that the visit of Russian submarines to Surabaya could further strengthen communication and cooperation between the two countries.

The Russian delegation, before meeting the Dansatsel Koarmada II, also visited the Nanggala Monument to pay tribute to the soldiers of the KRI Nanggala-402 who died while on duty.

"Their presence is a symbol of deep appreciation and solidarity from the Russian Navy to the Indonesian Navy, as well as strengthening the friendship between the two navys," said Kadispen Koamada II.
