Entering The Rainy Season, Beware Of Extreme Weather And Hydrometeorological Disasters
JAKARTA - Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati appealed to the public and regional heads to be vigilant and prepare for extreme weather and potential hydrometeorological disasters. This is because most parts of Indonesia have entered the rainy season.
Dwikorita menyampaikan, fenomena La Nina diperkirakan akan meningkatkan curah hujan hingga 20% sampai awal 2025, yang dapat menambah potensi bencana hidrometeorologi.
Dwikorita emphasized the importance of improving the function of water resource infrastructure in urban areas or flood-prone areas, such as the capacity of drainage systems, water reservoirs, and infiltration, in order to prevent flooding.
"Waduk, retention ponds, reservoirs, and other water storage must be ensured to function optimally to deal with high rainfall in the rainy season and users during the dry season," said Dwikorita Karnawati in her official statement, quoted Friday, November 8.
BMKG Deputy for Meteorology, Guswanto added, parts of Indonesia, especially Sumatra, central to western Java, and parts of Kalimantan have entered the rainy season. Even though it has just entered the rainy season, several hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides have occurred, for example in Bogor and Sukabumi, West Java.
