Finally Snowfall On Mount Fuji
JAKARTA - Mount Fuji in Japan has finally experienced an iconic peak of snow. The snowfall occurred after Mount Fuji recorded a record snowfall no later than 130 years.
The office staff of the Kofu observatory saw snow near the peak of the country's highest volcano as high as 3,776 m (12,388 ft) on Thursday, November 7.
"The first snowfall in Fuji is defined as a point when the entire or part of the mountain is covered in snow or solid white rainfall", the Japan meteorological office continued.
The first snowfall on Mount Fuji has been delayed in recent years, although the reason is still unclear, said Mamoru Matsumoto of the Kofu observatory office.
"I'm relieved to finally see the snow," he said.
"The temperature at the top of Fuji has been high since October, so I expect there will be a long delay in snowfall, which makes me feel restless," he added.
The incredible warm weather means rainfall did not turn snow in October, when the average temperature at the peak hit a record high of 1.6 degrees Celsius, compared to the previous October average of minus 2 degrees Celsius.
Japan's hottest summer this year raised the national average temperature from June to August by 1.76 degrees Celsius higher than usual.
