Mahfud MD: There Is Hope To Fight Corruption As Long As The President Wants

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto is the only hope of eradicating corruption in this country because the President can order the Attorney General, Police, and others, said former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD.

"Actually, there is hope (for eradicating corruption) as long as the President wants, because all of them are the President who must eradicate the mafias," Mahfud said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, November 6.

Presiden Prabowo, kata Mahfud MD. dapat memerintahkan Jaksa Agung, Polri, dan para menteri untuk bisa memberantas korupsi karena merekalah yang berwenang untuk itu.

According to him, since his inauguration until now President Prabowo has continued to emphasize his promise to eradicate corruption, and it was said not once or twice during a speech, but was repeated.

Even continued Mahfud MD President once said he would pursue corruptors to Antarctica, and this has become a breath of fresh air against law enforcement for corruptors.

"This hope exists, because until now President Prabowo has promised to prosper the people, want to eradicate corruption, enforce the law and build a polite democracy," he said.

Previously, Mahfud MD said the theory to eradicate corruption had run out because everything had been used and promulgated.

"The theory has run out. It seems that many are desperate because all of the theories have been used, what is proposed has been used as law," said Mahfud Md. when he was a resource person at a discussion entitled Corruption Eradication: Is There Still Hope.

Although all theories have been used to eradicate corruption, according to him, until now these crimes have not yet had any signs of a decline, even the Corruption Perception Index (IPK) continues to increase.

Mahfud MD said that at the beginning of the reform all theories had been used. For example, when forming the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the Judicial Commission (KY), the Constitutional Court (MK), and others.

"However, the Corruption Perception Index is still bad, while the field is muddy. Corruption is in various sectors of government, all departments have corruptors," said Mahfud.
