BKKPN Has Not Confirmed The Cause Of Sperm Whale Death Stranded On The Coast Of East Sumba

KUPANG - The Kupang National Water Area Conservation Center (BKKPN) reported that a mammal of dead sperm whales was stranded on the coast of Pindu Hurani Tabundung, East Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara Province.

Head of BKKPN Kupang Imam Fauzi said that currently the BKKPN team has coordinated with the NTT Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA) to check the condition of the whale.

"Currently it is still being handled by the team in the field. The location is far away and difficult to signal so we also have not complete data," he told ANTARA in Kupang, Wednesday, November 6.

Based on information obtained from local residents, the sperm whale mammal was only stranded on Tuesday night.

Imam added that if you look at the physical condition of the stranded whale, it has not decayed, and it is estimated that it will only die one day.

"If you look at the physical condition of not experiencing decay, the calculation may only be about one daily death," he said.

Currently, he said, the condition of the sperm whale is still at the location, and is still waiting for the latest information from the team to go to the location.

Regarding the length and width of the whale, he said, the team was still collecting data.

He hopes that the community or fishermen will not consume the stranded and dead mammals, because they are protected by law.
