KPK Alludes To The Deterrent Effect For Corruptors After Mardani Maming's Sentence To 10 Years In Prison

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) alluded to the provision of securities for corruptors after the Supreme Court (MA) granted a judicial review (PK) proposed by former Tanah Bumbu Regent Mardani H. Maming.

KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardika said that her party certainly respects the independence of the panel of judges. But, on the other hand, the anti-corruption commission regretted the reduction in the sentence from 12 years to 10 years in prison.

"We regret that the prison sentence imposed fell to 10 years. The KPK hopes that the legal process in handling corruption cases can provide an effective deterrent effect for the perpetrators," Tessa told reporters in a written statement, Wednesday, November 6.

Not only that, but Tessa said that giving punishment to corruptors should be able to contribute to non-tax state revenue (PNBP). So, it is hoped that Mardani will immediately pay the replacement money sentence that has been knocked by the panel of judges.

"In his decision, the panel of judges stated that the convict Mardani H. Maming had been legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing a criminal act of corruption. In addition, the judge also imposed a fine of Rp. 500 million and paid compensation of Rp. 110,604,731,752," said the spokesman with the background of the investigator.

As previously reported, the Supreme Court (MA) granted a judicial review (PK) filed by the convict Mardani Maming. The sentence of the former Regent of Tanah Bumbu was reduced from 12 years to 10 years in prison.

Case number: 1003 PK/Pid.Sus/2024 is examined and tried by the Chairman of the Prim Council Haryadi with member judges Ansori and Dwiarso Budi Santiarto, as well as Dodik Setyo Wijayanto as the Substitute Registrar. This decision was read out on Monday, November 4.

Prim is known to replace Sunarto who was later appointed as Chairman of the Supreme Court.

Furthermore, Mardani was also sentenced to pay a replacement money of Rp110,604,731,752. If he did not pay then his property was confiscated and auctioned off.

For example, the auction of his property has been carried out but it is still not enough to pay the replacement money, so Mardani can be sentenced to two years in prison.
