Honda Will Expand Electric Motor Battery Sharing Services In Europe Next Year

JAKARTA - Honda Motor Co., together with a Swedish startup focused on trading battery rental services on electric motors, will soon begin testing the sharing service' battery verification at Malmo starting February 2025 within one year.

The purpose of this test is to find out the acceptance of battery sharing services in Europe, the suitability of the new battery exchange station, and the feasibility of the service business.

Operational Executive MCPP Elect Biz Dev Unit Honda Motor Co., Ltd, Daiki Mihara said this test will create a new business model for electric motorcycles on the blue continent which is expected to accelerate the spread of electric motorcycles in the region.

The joint verification test of battery sharing services with GoCimo will create a new business model for electric motorcycles in Europe, which in the future will be expanded throughout Europe to accelerate the deployment of electric motorcycles and Honda Mobile Power Packes e:," Mihara said on the Honda Europe page, Wednesday, November 6.

The test will consist of a battery exchange station Honda Power Pack Exchanger e: located at three locations in Malmo, which will be used to exchange the Honda Mobile Power Pack e: for an EM1 e electric scooter: sold in Europe.

In this test, the manufacturer will provide a number of hardware and systems, consisting of 30 EM1 e:s, 60 Honda Mobile Power Pack e:s, and three Honda Power Pack Exchange e:s as well as its full-sale service.

In this verification test, GoCimo will be responsible for the operation of battery sharing services, acquisition and customer management, as well as securing the location of the battery exchange station.

Starting with this initiative, manufacturers have a vision to promote electric motorcycles and expand the use of exchange batteries in Europe, especially for business needs in a number of major European cities.

The partnership will also evaluate the potential for long-term partnerships for the European market during verification tests.

Now, Honda has launched battery-sharing services in several regions, consisting of Japan, India, Indonesia, and Thailand. Verification tests in Sweden mark its fifth country providing this service as well as Europe's first.
